President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Finance Minister to allocate funds for the second phase of the Blekusu Sea Defence project to prevent future flooding.
This follows hundreds of residents within Salakope, Amutinu and Agavedzi being displaced due to the recent flooding in their area.
President Mahama gave the directive when he visited Agavedzi in the Volta Region to assess the level of destruction as a result of tidal waves on Thursday March 6. "So I am going to ask the finance minister to include funding to start phase two of the Blekusu Sea Defence project." "…There are two things we need to do: start the building of the phase two of the defence wall but at the same time resettle those whose houses have been affected.
So we will look for a more suitable site for the resettlement project." Read also… Accountability and security key to democracy, not just voting - Mahama
