The Ag Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, Mr Hugh Brown, has directed heads of its stations to disengage beneficiaries of the Youth in Afforestation and Reforestation Programme (YAP).
Mr Brown referenced a letter issued by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources sanctioning the disengagement exercise. "You are therefore, kindly requested to take immediate steps to disengage all the YAP beneficiaries under your jurisdiction (if any) by issuing individual disengagement letters to each beneficiary by 4th March,2025 using the attached disengagement sample letter," Mr Brown wrote.
The intercepted letter dated 28th February, 2025, whose content has been confirmed by the Head of Communication of the Commission, Joyce Kwarfo, was addressed to heads of "all stations; FSD,WD and TIDO." Reliable sources tell our news team that the directive is expected to affect over 40,000 beneficiaries of the Youth in Afforestation and Reforestation Programme engaged so far since its inception in 2018.
The Youth in Afforestation/Reforestation Project (YAP) is a government-funded landscape restoration intervention that involves the engagement of predominantly young people as beneficiaries to undertake rehabilitation of degraded and deforested landscapes nationwide and also support forest protection and management operations.
