Policy and Progress Institute (PPI-Ghana) has expressed concerns over the violent incidents that marred the Ablekuma North Constituency parliamentary rerun held on Friday, July 11, 2025.
In a statement signed by its Acting Director of Public Affairs, Nana Yaa Afratima Peprah, the group described the events as "terror and disruptions." They cited viral videos that captured individuals believed to be pro-NDC thugs physically attacking members and officials of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). "The integrity of Ghana's democratic system has been deeply bruised by this sad occurrence," the statement read.
PPI-Ghana further condemned what it described as the inaction of security personnel who were visibly present during the attacks. "Shockingly, these atrocities occurred right in front of police personnel and no arrest has so far been made," the group noted.
The think tank also took issue with the silence of President , stating, "It is even heartbreaking that the President has so far remained silent on the subject." Calling for urgent action, PPI-Ghana demanded that President John Mahama immediately establishes an Independent Commission of Enquiry to investigate the violence and bring the perpetrators to justice. "This is not merely a matter of justice, it is a critical test of the resolve of the President to safeguard Ghana's peaceful and democratic heritage," the statement emphasised.
