Authorities have apprehended 66 illegal miners in a well-coordinated joint military and police raid at the Tilli forest in the Upper East Region.

This operation, carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, March 4, 2025, sought to put an end to the widespread illegal mining activities devastating the forest.

Among those detained are two individuals from Burkina Faso, 26 from Togo, and 38 from Ghana.

These miners had been operating clandestinely in the Tilli forest, one of the region's largest forest reserves, causing significant ecological damage.
