Prof Sharif Mahmud Khalid, Economic Advisor to the Office of the Vice President has criticised the previous government for their stance on the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He argued that it was the previous administration, not the current one, that impugned the IMF.
Prof Khalid pointed out on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday that the previous government had vowed never to seek assistance from the IMF but eventually did so, with their "tail between their legs and hackles raised with wagging tails." He emphasised that the previous administration's actions led to delays in accessing the tranches of loans from the IMF.
According to Prof Khalid, the previous government's approach to the IMF created unnecessary complications and hindered the country's financial progress.
