All shops and businesses along Asafoatse Nettey Road and parts of the Central Business District (CBD) are expected to close temporarily on Friday, February 28, 2025, as the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) rolls out the maiden edition of the Regional Sanitation Day clean-up exercise.
The initiative, which aligns with President John Dramani Mahama's Reset Agenda for reviving the National Sanitation Day, aims to improve sanitation in the metropolis, ahead of the March 6th Independence Day celebrations.
In a statement, issued on Thursday, 27th February 2025, Public Relations Officer of the AMA, Gilbert Nii Ankrah, said the exercise, in collaboration with the Regional Environmental Health Directorate would take place from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM and focus on the stretch between the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and the Ghana Fire Service Training School.
The statement noted that businesses operating along the designated route would be required to temporarily halt operations to facilitate a thorough clean-up adding that activities would include the removal of sand from roadside kerbs, sweeping of streets and public spaces, weeding of overgrown areas, and general waste collection within the Central Business District (CBD).
