The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has rejected a request from the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employment to call off its ongoing strike, insisting that its concerns over political interference in the Civil Service must be addressed before any resolution can be considered.
The strike, which officially commenced on Thursday, February 20, 2025, is in direct response to the continued tenure of Samuel Adom Botchwey as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.
CLOGSAG has vehemently opposed his appointment, arguing that his political affiliations render him ineligible to hold such a position within the Civil Service, which is supposed to remain apolitical and neutral in governance.
Addressing the media at a press conference in Accra on Saturday, February 22, CLOGSAG's Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, categorically dismissed the Ministry's request, stating that it lacks merit and fails to provide a clear pathway for resolving the ongoing impasse.
