The Minister of Energy, John Jinapor, has strongly refuted reports suggesting that the government intends to sell the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Addressing the media during a working visit to the West African Gas Pipeline Company Station in Tema on February 21, Jinapor described such claims as misleading and called for clarity on the government's stance regarding the power distributor. "The news items, the publication, and the commentary by some people who should know better that we are selling ECG-it's not true; it will not be sold," Jinapor stated emphatically.
According to him, the government's focus is not on privatization but rather on improving operational efficiency by bringing in private sector participation. "It will not be sold, but we want private sector involvement to improve efficiency, reduce losses, and strengthen the revenue base so that we can meet our financial obligations," he reiterated.
Jinapor explained that the decision to involve private entities is aimed at tackling the company's challenges, including revenue losses and inefficiencies in service delivery.
