President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that education remains a cornerstone of my government's agenda. He says his government has invested heavily in this sector because we recognize that it is the most powerful tool to transform our nation. The No Guarantor Policy has significantly improved access to tertiary education, removing financial barriers and opening doors for countless young Ghanaians, he said. Additionally, he stated, "our substantial support for research and academic development reflects our belief in the power of knowledge to drive national progress."
President Akufo-Addo said these on Thursday, 22nd August 2024 after he commissioned the Silver Jubilee Building at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale. The commissioning, he said, is a significant milestone that underscores his commitment to advancing education in Ghana.
"This three-storey complex, which houses lecture halls and offices, is not just a building; it symbolizes our shared vision for a brighter future and our dedication to providing quality education for all.
"I am proud to have fulfilled the promise I made in 2018 during UDS's 25th-anniversary celebration, ensuring that this institution continues to thrive as a hub for innovation and intellectual growth.
"As we celebrate this achievement, I urge all universities in Ghana to strengthen their ties with industry and government to ensure that their research and teaching align with our nation's development goals.
"Together, we are building a brighter future for Ghana, and I am confident that with continued investment in education, we can unleash the full potential of our young people and propel our country to greater heights," he wrote on Facebook after the commissioning.
