Former Attorney General and Special Prosecutor, Amidu has made it clear that while he supports the investigation and prosecution of Ofori-Atta for any crimes he may have committed, he condemns any attempt to dehumanize individuals in the court of public opinion. "I will oppose any and every government scam to dehumanize any citizen of Ghana in flagrant violation of their fundamental rights," he stated in an open letter available to MyNewsGH.
According to Amidu, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng had no legal authority to declare Ofori-Atta a fugitive.
He insisted that under Ghanaian law, including the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act (Act 959) and the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act (Act 30), the OSP does not have such powers. "Kissi Agyebeng knew that he did not have any power to sign a directive declaring a high-profile person a fugitive from justice," Amidu argued.
The former Special Prosecutor went further, alleging that Agyebeng's actions were influenced by his ties to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
