Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has reaffirmed the government's commitment to streamlining passport acquisition in Ghana, aligning with President John Dramani Mahama's widely discussed 24-hour policy.
According to Ablakwa, provisions have been made in the 2025 budget to employ 100 additional staff to facilitate a 24-hour passport application process and reduce the overall processing time to one week. "We've allocated provisions to employ approximately 100 additional staff in the 2025 budget to launch the 24-hour passport application process and reduce the passport processing time to one week," he stated while speaking to the media.
This comes days after he disclosed that the passport office has over 75,000 unclaimed passports in its possession.
According to him, after taking over office, he intends to audit the passports and reach out to persons who own them.
