Jerry Ahmed Shaib, a New Patriotic Party Member of (MP) for Weija-Gbawe, has urged the government and citizens to take responsibility for pedestrian safety, particularly regarding the use of footbridges.
He reminded the citizenry that road safety was a shared responsibility, saying while the government continues to invest in infrastructure, it was equally important that "we all take responsibility for our actions," Shaib said on Tuesday.
He delivered a statement on the Floor of the House on the impact of pedestrian footbridges on road safety, and the failure of road users in effectively utilising pedestrian footbridges.
Shaib proposed a multi-pronged approach to address the issue, including public awareness campaigns, enforcement of road safety regulations, design and accessibility improvements, and collaboration with traffic authorities.
