The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that it has received 700,000 blank cards to help address the backlog of National Identification Cards (Ghana Cards).
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 18 February 2025, the NIA revealed that the cards were obtained through the efforts of its Acting Executive Secretary, Yayra Koku.
The NIA explained that the new cards would be used to print backlogs, including first issuance cards, replacement cards, and others. "The National Identification Authority (NIA) wishes to inform the public that it received a total of 700,000 blank cards from its technical partners on Monday, 17 February 2025, following weeks of negotiations led by the Acting Executive Secretary.
These blank cards will be used to print the backlog of records (first issuance, card replacements, and updates of personal information) that have been pending since 2023," part of the statement read.
