Minority leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has announced that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is expected to return to Ghana in May 2025 following a medical assessment abroad.
His statement follows the Office of the Special Prosecutor's (OSP) decision to declare Ofori-Atta wanted in connection with an ongoing corruption investigation, urging the public to provide information on his whereabouts.
Addressing Parliament on Tuesday, February 18, Afenyo-Markin assured that the former Minister's legal representatives have been in contact with the OSP and confirmed his scheduled return.
He stated that Ofori-Atta is willing to appear for an in-person interrogation upon arrival. "The legal team of the former Minister has been in communication with the Office of the Special Prosecutor and has indicated that he is scheduled to return between May 14 and 30, 2025," Afenyo-Markin said. "He is prepared to present himself for questioning upon his arrival." He further read a letter from Ofori-Atta's lawyers, explaining the reasons for his absence and confirming his expected return. "We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated February 17, 2025," the letter stated. "We respectfully indicate that our client, who is due for his return, cannot travel before six to eight weeks post-surgical intervention, as indicated in the hospital's letter.
