The issue of last-minute appointments by outgoing governments has once again sparked debate, with many calling for clear legal measures to prevent the practice.
CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has proposed enacting a law that would prohibit major government decisions, including contracts and mass recruitment, within three months of an election.
Speaking on TV3's The KeyPoints monitored by MyNewsGH, Tameklo stressed the need for legislative reforms to put an end to what has become a recurring problem in Ghana's governance. "We need to reform what has been the practice or the norms over the period, one way to do that is through legislation… Maybe we need to legislate and put it in the law that three months to an election there shouldn't be major decisions taken by way of contracts, employment or mass recruitment," he said.
His remarks come in the wake of the Mahama administration terminating last-minute recruitments made by the former Akufo-Addo government, a move that has reignited conversations about political transitions and accountability.
