President John Dramani Mahama through the Ministry of Defense has deployed personnel from the 48 Engineers Regiment to take an initial engineering assessment and estimates for the permanent construction of a bridge at Asuokaw in the Upper West Akim District of the Eastern Region.

President Mahama reacting to a viral video on social media where a young boy was seen carrying his younger brother crossing a river on a log to school yesterday through his Facebook post assured that work will commence to permanently and urgently resolve the challenge for the people and school children.

The military is expected to team up with district road engineers to ensure a speedy construction of the bridge.

The Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Awatey who visited the community together with the Members of Parliament for Upper and Lower West Akim Constituencies and the military assured them of a speedy construction to ease their burdens. "We have seen that the defense ministry has taken an interest because of the brave nature of the young man.
