Social media has been buzzing with the name "Alhaji" following the interception of a shipment containing unspecified amounts of US dollars, Ghanaian cedis (both genuine and counterfeit), and gold bars by National Security.
The items were discovered concealed in a warehouse in Sapeiman, a suburb of Accra, after National Security operatives acted on a tip-off.
During a special late-night operation, law enforcement officers uncovered 12 shipping containers (20ft each) filled with concealed items, although two containers remain unaccounted for and are currently being tracked.
Among the seized items were, bundles of fake US dollars, found hidden in wooden boxes covered with cement and charcoal, additional counterfeit currencies sealed in plywood-covered boxes, boxes of metals suspected to be gold bars, fake Ghana Army uniforms and boots.
