President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to enhancing the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme, aiming to tackle its challenges and provide better educational opportunities for the nation's youth.
Speaking during his 'Thank You Tour' of the Central Region on February 6, 2025, the President outlined key initiatives to strengthen the programme, ensuring that it delivers quality education and equips students with the skills they need for the global economy. "Education will remain a priority, and we will work to provide the best possible learning environment for our children at all levels," President Mahama emphasized.
He noted that his government would focus on improving the Free SHS programme by securing dedicated funding and decentralizing food procurement to address some of the challenges the system faces.
One of the key highlights of his plans includes the introduction of a "no academic fees" policy that will offer financial aid to continuing students, ensuring that all students have access to education regardless of their financial background.
