Former Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and Akuapem North MP, Samuel Awuku, has called on Parliament to ensure that revenue from the lottery sector is strategically allocated to critical social sectors such as education and healthcare.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Awuku emphasised that while lottery operations generate substantial revenue, there is little transparency regarding how these funds are utilised.
He urged lawmakers to establish clear guidelines to direct lottery proceeds towards national development priorities. "In many developed countries, lottery funds are deliberately channelled into education, healthcare, and youth development.
Ghana must adopt a similar model to ensure that revenue from this sector benefits the public," he stated.
