The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the government will suspend the provision of feeding allowances for teacher trainees in colleges of education across Ghana.

The decision was revealed during a meeting with the principals of various colleges of education in Accra.

Iddrisu explained that the government can no longer sustain the practice of providing feeding allowances, citing the policy's unsustainability and its divergence from global best practices in higher education.

He emphasized that feeding tertiary students should not fall under the government's responsibilities, stating that it is no longer feasible for the state to continue this form of support at this level of education. "The government intends to replace the feeding programme with an enhanced student loan scheme that will enable students to cover their own living expenses, including meals," Iddrisu said.
