Ghana's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has officially transitioned into the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), following the enactment of the Environmental Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1124).
This Act repeals and replaces the Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1994 (Act 490), significantly enhancing the legal framework for environmental management in Ghana.
This transition aligns with President John Dramani Mahama's broader environmental policy agenda, which prioritises climate change resilience, effective waste management, and sustainability. As part of this transformation, President Mahama had earlier appointed renowned climate scientist Prof.
Nana Ama Browne Klutse as the CEO of the authority to oversee its operations.
