New Medeama head coach Ibrahim Tanko has explained his decision to leave Accra Lions for the Tarkwa-based club, stating it was simply time for a new challenge.

Speaking in his first interview after signing a two-and-a-half-year deal to replace Nebojsa Kapor, Tanko said: "After three years, I just decided maybe I want to do something else, so that's the reason.

I am still fine with the (Lions) team owners.

There is no misunderstanding, I just decided to do something different, and they allowed me." Tanko guided Accra Lions to a second-place finish in the 2023-2024 Ghana Premier League, behind champions FC Samartex 1996.
