The Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology, Murtala Muhammed has called for alternative solutions to deal with usage of plastics as opposed to a complete ban on the importation of plastic bags in Ghana.

Speaking during his vetting on January 30, 2025, the Tamale Central MP stressed the need for development of sustainable solutions to deal with plastic management.

Expressing concern over the indiscriminate disposal of plastics, Murtala Muhammed noted that government must address the issue with a strategic approach else a complete ban will bring serious consequences. "You don't just ban because there's a challenge, you need to be looking for alternatives.

So if you don't have alternatives and you go ahead with the ban, the consequences will be dire. "What I think I will do is let's have a comprehensive study on the issue.
