President John Dramani Mahama has been told to place a ban on the issuing of new mining licenses as part of efforts to recover the environment from the impact of illegal small-scale mining (Galamsey).

Convener of the Fix the Country Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor who made the call asked President Mahama to also cancel all 2000 mining licenses given out by the Akufo-Addo administration.

His comments come at a time when data from the Ghana Mining Repository showed that over a hundred mining-related licenses were issued in the last week of former President Akufo-Addo's New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

Out of the 103 licenses issued in 2025, 102 were granted between January 1 and January 6, before the swearing-in of President John Dramani Mahama.
