The Executives and members of the Union of Industry, Commerce, and Finance (UNICOF), Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) branch, have urged the government to focus on its vision for TOR and not be distracted by individuals and groups they describe as discredited and criminally minded, who profit by continually creating negative stories about TOR in the public domain.
They have also entreated their fellow TOR workers not to allow themselves to be used by such people to tarnish the image of the company for selfish and malicious purposes.
In a statement, the group expressed optimism that President John Dramani Mahama will keep his pledge to revive TOR upon his return. "The workers of the Tema Oil Refinery are excited about the return of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama and are confident that he will fulfill his promise to revive TOR as indicated in the NDC's manifesto and re-echoed during his interaction with stakeholders in the petroleum downstream sector in Accra before the 2024 election." The statement further noted: "We were witnesses to what President Mahama did for TOR during his first term, and we are confident that he will do even more for TOR during this second tenure.
To this end, we want to assure the new government of our support and cooperation in the revival of our dear refinery." The group re-emphasized that TOR is a viable national asset, and with the necessary investment and support, it can help stabilize Ghana's economy while ensuring fuel and job security.
