Davis Ansah Opoku, MP for Mpraeso Constituency in the Eastern Region, has called for a constitutional amendment to allow the election of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to help curb the rising attrition in the Legislature.
Speaking in parliament, Opoku argued that the current system burdens MPs with development responsibilities, undermining their primary role as lawmakers. "MPs are legislators, not development agents.
But due to the inability to elect MMDCEs, constituents demand developmental projects from MPs, leading to unmet expectations and voter dissatisfaction," he explained.
