The Minister-Designate for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating state of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), revealing that the Service has not procured a single fire tender in nearly a decade.
Speaking during his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Friday, January 24, the Asawase Member of Parliament highlighted the chronic neglect and resource constraints that have hindered the Service's effectiveness.
Muntaka underscored the pressing need for investment in firefighting equipment, emphasising how the lack of new fire tenders has left firefighters ill-equipped to handle emergencies.
He noted that the absence of reliable tools has not only compromised public safety but also subjected firefighters to undue criticism from frustrated citizens. "No fire tender has been procured in the last nine or almost ten years," Muntaka stated. "Imagine you and I using vehicles that don't even carry the kind of load the Fire Service vehicles do.
