Minister nominee for the Ashanti Region, Dr Frank Amoakohene, says schools in Obuasi will reopen once peace is assured, following violent clashes between illegal miners and military personnel that resulted in the deaths o nine persons at AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine.
In the wake of the unrest, both public and private schools in Obuasi have been temporarily closed for safety reasons.
Students have been instructed to stay home as a precaution.
Despite the increased security presence in the area, local authorities have decided to keep schools closed until the situation has stabilised.
