Haruna Iddrisu, the Education Minister-Designate, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to uncap the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to unlock additional resources for infrastructure development in the education sector.

He explained that uncapping the GETFund would make GHC7.9 billion available to the Ministry of Education, significantly accelerating the expansion of infrastructure.

Appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 20, 2025, Haruna Iddrisu pledged to engage the Minister of Finance to prioritize the uncapping of GETFund as a matter of urgency.

He also stated that he would consult with President John Dramani Mahama to negotiate with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a review of the memorandum that includes provisions affecting GETFund. "The Ghana Education Trust Fund has done its part…President Mahama and the finance minister have gone public and I join them in saying that we will uncap the GETFund to free additional resources to support robust infrastructure developments. "Mathematically, cap GETFund today is about GHC3.2 billion.
