Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister-Designate for Education, has reaffirmed President John Dramani Mahama's commitment to refining the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy to enhance its sustainability and impact.

The Free SHS initiative, introduced by the Akufo-Addo administration, was a focal point of President Mahama's 2024 election campaign, where he pledged to improve rather than abolish the programme if elected.

During his vetting by Parliament's Appointments Committee on 20 January, Haruna Iddrisu clarified that the government has no intention of canceling the policy but aims to expand its reach and optimise its benefits for Ghanaians. "Let me assure this committee that President John Dramani Mahama has no option to cancel Free SHS.

Therefore, those who listen to him, even in the course of his campaign, he has stated that he will expand Free SHS," Haruna Iddrisu stated.
