Kwaku Afari has issued a stern warning about the rising tensions between illegal miners and security forces guarding mining concessions in Ghana.

The technical director of the Wassa Association of Communities Affected by Mining (WACAM), in an interview on the Asaase Breakfast Show, spoke about the dangers posed by escalating violence in the mining sector, stressing that the issue has been persistent for decades. "It is not just a trend which is starting, but it has been with us for the past 30 years," Afari said, reflecting on the long-standing issue of violent confrontations between illegal miners and security personnel.

He explained that while the illegal mining sector has been a problem for a long time, recent violent clashes have brought the situation into sharper focus.

Afari's comments come amid a growing number of violent incidents involving illegal miners and security forces, with reports of clashes at various mining sites across the country.
