Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minister-Designate for Roads and Highways, has strongly criticised the previous government's decision to abolish road tolls, labelling it an "illegal act." During his vetting in Parliament on Monday, January 20, Agbodza outlined the circumstances surrounding the policy change and emphasised its financial impact.
He revealed that members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the Roads and Transport Committee of Parliament had cautioned against the move before it was implemented.
Despite their warnings, the then-Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah, pushed ahead, disregarding concerns raised by stakeholders and experts.
Agbodza highlighted the significant revenue losses resulting from the abolition of road tolls, noting their importance to the Road Fund.
