A University of Ghana historian Kweku Darko Ankrah has called for consultations and critical thinking to guide the construction of statues.

He says there must be considerations that will guide the construction of statues to reflect the values and histories of the people they are meant to represent. "When you are a leader and you want to put up some of these effigies or statues, critical thinking must go into it [and] it must not be partisan.
