President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Edward Abambire Bawa as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), effective 17 January 2025.
The announcement was made in a letter signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama, on the same date.
The letter stated: "His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, in accordance with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 10(2) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Act, 1983 (P.N.D.C.L. 64), has appointed you as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, pending receipt of the required advice of the Honourable Minister for Energy, in consultation with the Public Services Commission." Edward Abambire Bawa is a distinguished energy policy expert and communications professional, currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Bongo Constituency, Ghana. Edward has held pivotal roles, including Head of the Communication Unit at the Ministry of Energy and as a communications consultant for the World Bank's Oil and Gas Capacity Building Project for six years.
Edward has extensive experience in energy policy analysis, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder engagement, having been instrumental in drafting and amending energy-related legislation.
