The announcement emphasizes that diplomatic and service passports are reserved for individuals actively engaged in specific state duties. "Those no longer serving in these capacities are required to return the passports to the ministry immediately." The affected groups include: 1.Former government ministers, deputy ministers, and other appointees. 2.Members of Parliament who are no longer in office. 3.Retired members of the judiciary. 4.Public servants who have left active service. 5.Staff of statutory agencies and commissions no longer holding office. 6.Retired officers of the security services. 7.Spouses of entitled officials who have vacated their roles. 8.Other categories of individuals previously granted the privilege without eligibility.
This directive is part of efforts to maintain the integrity of Ghana's passport system and ensure compliance with international best practices.
