The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has expressed appreciation to President for his efforts in ensuring the sustainability of the National Health Insurance Scheme.
The management of the state institution stated that President Mahama's promise to uncap the NHIA in the 2025 budget is a significant shift since the inception of the scheme, which aims to provide Ghanaians with quality healthcare at a more affordable rate.
The NHIA further highlighted that the government's commitment to removing the budgetary cap demonstrates its dedication to strengthening the healthcare system and ensuring sustainable funding for the improvement of the NHIS. "This decisive action, announced at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service held at the Ohene Konadu Auditorium, University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Accra, over the weekend, marks a significant turning point in the Scheme's history. "By removing the budgetary cap, the government has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to strengthening Ghana's healthcare system and ensuring sustainable funding for the NHIS," the NHIA said in a press statement released on Monday, January 13, 2025.
Highlighting the potential benefits of uncapping the budget allocation for the NHIA, the statement noted, "This bold move will have a significant impact on the Scheme's growth and its aspiration to achieve Universal Health Coverage.
