Counsel for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo has responded to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawyers' allegations that the declaration of Ebi Bright as the winner of the Tema Central parliamentary election on December 7, 2024, was not made by an official of the Electoral Commission (EC).
In his turn to oppose the mandamus application, which aimed to force the EC to compile results from four constituencies, he argued that the NPP's applicant had conceded in his affidavit that a declaration had been made, but it was done without including results from two polling stations.
To support his argument, Tameklo presented a letter from one of the NPP applicants, Charles Forson, who was written to the EC requesting that the commission instruct the returning officer to properly collate and declare the results in accordance with the law.
He further contended that the EC had made a proper declaration, and therefore, there was no need to re-collate the results. "It is not the duty of this court to make a determination on who won an election, they are inviting you on a very slippery path.
