South African football legend Benni McCarthy is set to become the new head coach of Kenya's national team, the Harambee Stars, according to Flashscore.

The 46-year-old, who scored 31 goals in 79 appearances for South Africa, will replace Engin Firat following Francis Kimanzi's interim stint.

Kimanzi, alongside assistants Zedekiah Otieno and John Kamau, has been leading preparations for the Mapinduzi Cup tournament scheduled for Zanzibar from January 3.

McCarthy's appointment is expected to be finalized before January 10, with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) targeting his unveiling ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.
