Nana Ohene Ntow, Special Advisor to Alan Kyerematen, the flagbearer of the Movement for Change, has called for an end to the political duopoly in Ghana.
Ntow made the call after the 2024 elections, in which, despite vigorous campaigning, the Movement for Change and other smaller parties failed to secure even 1% of the vote.
In contrast, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) earned 41.81% of the vote, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured 56.55% in 262 out of 276 constituencies, despite growing dissatisfaction with both major parties.
Speaking on JoyNews, Ntow expressed concern that Ghanaians' consistent support for the NPP and NDC reflects a reluctance to embrace alternative political parties, a trend he finds troubling for the country's political progress. "It doesn't seem like Ghanaians are ready to step out of their comfort zones, even though there have been many complaints about the previous government, and even more about the current one.
