The President of the Ghana HIV and AIDS Network(GHANET), Mr.
Ernest Amoabeng Ortsin, has called Ghanaians, especially the youth, to play their vital role to help reduce the spreading of HIV/AIDS in Ghana.According to him, they would like to seize this opportunity to remind all Ghanaians that the fight against HIV and AIDS is not yet over, so every Ghanaian should play his or her part to help the fight become successful.Mr.
Ernest Amoabeng Ortsin, in an interview with Peace FM News, emphasized that even though their national prevalence has declined to 1.53%, the rate of new infections is quite alarming.
For example, earlier this year, the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) reported that cases of new infections in the year 2023 were 17,774, and also in November this year, the National AIDS/STI Control Programme (NACP) reported that between January and September this year, 2024, the number of newly diagnosed HIV cases came up to about 34,000.He added that the above data shows that HIV and AIDS still remain a menace, in spite of all the gains we have made over the years.
