President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday, December 2, 2024, commissioned the Phase II expansion of the Tema Motorway Roundabout, an infrastructure project aimed at alleviating traffic congestion at one of Ghana's busiest intersections.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Akufo-Addo described road infrastructure as "the backbone of the nation's progress." He underscored the motorway's role as a vital economic artery that has served Ghana for nearly six decades, linking the industrial city of Tema to other regions and the broader West African sub-region. "These initiatives are part of a deliberate policy to decentralize economic opportunities and foster equitable development across the country," the President noted. "Our commitment extends beyond roads, we are investing significantly in other critical sectors of the economy including railways, healthcare, and education.
Laying the foundation for economically resilient and inclusive Ghana." He added that these investments are laying the foundation for a resilient and inclusive economy while addressing disparities in urban infrastructure.
President Akufo-Addo emphasized that the upgraded Tema Motorway and other ongoing infrastructure projects are designed to tackle these challenges, facilitate regional trade, and strengthen Ghana's role within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
