President has inaugurated a state-of-the-art market complex in Akim Oda, located in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region, marking a significant milestone in the local economy's revitalisation.
Constructed under the District Assemblies Common Fund and as part of the $100 million Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP), the project aligns with the World Bank-backed initiative to enhance urban development in 25 municipalities across Ghana.
The new market replaces the old structure devastated by a fire in September 2021, which destroyed hundreds of stalls and displaced traders, causing widespread economic hardship.
The ultra-modern complex features over 250 lockable stores, a clinic, a banking hall, and a creche, providing a secure and comfortable environment for trading activities.
