Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, the Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo, has praised Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin for his decision not to recall Parliament ahead of the upcoming December elections.
Speaker Bagbin declined a request from Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to reconvene the House for a two-day sitting, citing concerns over national interest and the impracticality of the proposed agenda.
In a memo dated November 26, 2024, Speaker Bagbin responded to Afenyo-Markin's request, made on November 22, 2024, which sought to reconvene Parliament on November 28 and 29 to address 22 items considered "urgent Government Business" and "outstanding public business." In his response, the Speaker emphasized the need to balance parliamentary duties with ongoing political campaigns, deeming it impractical to proceed with the proposed sitting at this time.
Speaking in an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Wednesday, Vanderpuye described the Speaker's decision as wise and in the best interest of the nation.
