A dissenting judgment by Supreme Court Judge, Justice Amadu Tanko, one of two judges to have dissented in the 5:2 majority decision has been praised by Lawyer Oliver Barker Vormawor for being outstanding. In the case brought by Efutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin against the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, Justice Tanko who who dissented wrong an opinion which Lawyer Oliver Barker Vormawor says is one for posterity. In his ruling, Justice Tanko emphasised that the Constitution itself places strict boundaries on the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court, particularly regarding matters where the High Court has been expressly designated to make certain determinations.
Writing on his Facebook Page, Barker Vormawor praised the Supreme Court Judge for showing moral urgency. Read his full post below: I have just finished reading the Supreme Court's decision in the Vacant Seats case.
And I must say, In great contrast to the Majority's decision, Justice Tanko's dissent is profoundly erudite. The dissent shows both the moral urgency and the intellectual dexterity that is reminiscent of some of the greatest decisions this country has ever seen.
It was a great nostalgic feeling to read him and the constitutional clarity of mind he exhibits. His analysis is matured and not rushed.
