Veteran Ghanaian musician and Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), Rex Omar has clarified that not all musicians or industry players qualify to be a member of the organization.
Speaking on UTV's United Showbiz with host Empress Gifty on Saturday, November 17, 2024, Rex Omar made known that GHAMRO is exclusively for rights owners, that is musicians who write their own songs or publishers who own the rights to songs.
He emphasized that musicians who have not written or published any songs have no business with GHAMRO, saying, "Songs are properties of musicians.
If you haven't registered your song or signed up with GHAMRO, the group cannot administer your songs or force you to join."The "Habiba" hitmaker addressed frequent complaints from musicians about not receiving royalties from GHAMRO, questioning whether those making the claims are registered members.
