The 2024 presidential candidate for the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Rev. , popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, has declared that if elected president and able to have his way, he would reduce the number of parliamentarians in Ghana from 275 to 16.
According to Rev.
Andrews, each of Ghana's sixteen regions is already overseen by a regional minister who manages regional affairs.
He argues that reducing the number of parliamentarians to one per region would significantly reduce the budget spent on MPs' salaries and allowances. "If I become president, I will reduce the number of parliamentarians to 16 because we have 16 regions, each represented by a regional minister.
