Former President John Dramani Mahama has said the governing Patriotic Party (NPP) plans to push the power cut situation to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.Mr Mahama notes that the government has just been managing the situation gradually awaiting the December 7 general elections to hand it over to the NDC.Parts of the country especially the capital city have been experiencing power cuts lately. The management of one of the power generators,  Sunon Asogli Power (Ghana) Limited suspended operations since Tuesday, 8th October 2024.This was contained in a press release dated October 16.According to the company, this decision has been necessitated by the indebtedness of the Electricity Company of Ghana to them." Sunon Asogli Power (Ghana) has over the years been very considerate in its dealings with ECG and the government, and, unlike other independent power producers, has not even invoiced ECG for accrued idle capacity charges.

Despite this, ECG owes  Sunon Asogli a net (excluding fuel) receivable amount of $259 million as at the end of September 2024," he added. The Chairman lamented that "Our debt has grown by 23% on the net balance, between January 2024 and September 2024 and only 22.6% of the invoices for period has been paid by ECG from the Cash Waterfall Mechanism."" We expect the Ministry of Finance to intervene for us to return to operations as soon as possible," Mr.

Yang urged.Addressing a gathering in Dambai in the Oti Region as part of his campaign activities, Mr Mahama described the recent power cuts as a self-inflicted erratic power supply. The presidential candidate of the NDC accused the government of owing independent power producers close to 2 Billion Dollars."They are just managing the situation to pass it now to the next NDC government, as we speak government owes independent power producers about 2 billion dollars," Mr Mahama said.
