The High Court in Accra has dismissed an application seeking to prohibit COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno from performing his role as Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of operations.
The applicant a lecturer, Emmanuel Felix Amantey, claimed that the police council and the presidency acted in excess of their powers by appointing COP Yohuno.
He argued that the constitution, the Ghana Police Service Act, and the police service regulations were silent on the role of a deputy IGP, and therefore filed a judicial review application accusing the president and the police council of perpetrating an illegality.
However, Justice Richard Apietu, in delivering his ruling on the matter, indicated that the supervisory jurisdiction of the High Court was not properly invoked.
