The Traditional Council of the Upper East region have appealed to the chief justice H/L Getrude Torkonoo to reopen the courts in the region. The chief Justice earlier this week closed down the courts in the region indefinitely due to the tension in Bawku.
The action comes after Chief Justice's attention was drawn to the concerns raised by lawyers and other court users about the current happenings in Bawku.
In a letter signed by the Judicial Secretary Justice Cyra Pamela Koranteng said, " In order to ensure the security and safety of Judges, staff, lawyers and court users, the Honourable Lady Chief Justice has ordered the closure of seven courts in the region".
But in a statement cited by mynewsgh addressed to the Chief justice by the Traditional Council of the Upper East Region, they said , "The Traditional Council is also appealing to the government and the Chief Justice to reconsider their decision and reopen the courts and re-enforce the necessary security.
