The vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr.

Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has come under criticism over nurses who despite a massive showing at this campaign in Pantang Nursing Training College defied this sweet promise demanding their unpaid allowances. The vice president and flagbearer of the NPP earlier this year was confronted by student nurses at a campus engagement who whose avowed displeasure at the government not paying their allowances spanning over 3 years.Dr Mahamadu Bawumia in answering the question from the student nurses said he was unaware of government been in arrears over the payment of the nursing trainee allowances. He subsequently ordered the finance ministry to release some monies for the payment of the allowances to which the students are still owed several months. But campaigning at Pantang Nursing and Midwifery Training School in Accra, the NPP running mate said it was better for the government to owe allowances than it been cancelled. But the nurses in a video captured and shared widely on social media showed them expressing their disgust at the double standard where the government has not fulfilled its promise of paying their allowances despite a much-touted campaign that it remains committed to paying the allowances. The students in a sharp response to the position expressed by the NPP running mate shouted ' we want allawa, we want allawa'  to the shock of Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh.Reacting to the incident, the Deputy Director of  Logistics and Protocol  for the opposition NDC Amanda Okyere opined that ''This is a video proof that reveals how Napo and Bawulair will stare and watch Ghanaians and Citizens in a state of shock amidst the chaos, suffering, challenges, etc when we expect a prompt and swift intervention from leadership"The deputy director has in recent times taken on the establishment over its lackadaisical attitude to address the challenges that have bedeviled the country. In the same video shared on social media, it is captured that the student nurses were running for their dear lives in an alleged fire incident with the NPP running mate in a state of shock looking on.Many wondered why dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh could not have called the fire service to the scene off the incident.

The NPP running mate was the nurses training college in the company of the national organizer of the party and other party big whigs. It is unclear if the incident recorded casualties.
